I have often wondered to myself if what we provide our clients, especially in the design stage is enough. We are building designers, architects and drafts people work with plans day in and day out. But our clients, many of whom will go through this process only a few times in their lives, may not always be seeing what we see.
So how do you help them understand your ideas and your design. Typically this comes in the form of a still image. This can either be a hand drawn sketch, or more typically a photo realistic rendered image like this one.

This however is still only part of the picture. It is puts your home or development in it's best possible light. But this doesn't tell you what the kitchen looks like, what the stairs look like how your living room feels and its relationship to the outdoor area.
We can also render internal images to give you a representation of your kitchen like this one

These are fantastic for the glossy magazine shot. But how does the room feel in relation to the living room, the dining room or the outdoor entertaining area?
There is an alternative ... It is called Bimx. Bimx is a 3d modelling program built into ArchiCAD. This program allows the client to view their project in a very different way. Using an tablet device such as an iPad the client is able to navigate the home like a computer game. See their new home from every angle, to visualise what it would be like to be standing at their kitchen bench or entering their new home from the street.
If you would like to see what Bimx is like you can download the program for your desktop computer here. You can search for Bimx - Building Information Model eXplorer in iTunes and Google Play directly on your device. Once you have installed then you can download one of Moloney Design Studio's Bimx model's here.
If this technology is the present, what is the future. What about VR ? Would you like to slap on a pair of VR goggles and check out your home before even a brick has been laid ? Let me know in the comments below.
